Bridging Tradition and Innovation: Technology in Spiritual Education

Abstract: Although spirituality and spiritual education are central to the lives of millions of people around the world, technology-driven interventions that could address the challenges in this field remain largely unexplored with very little research being facilitated. This study aims to identify issues faced while following spirituality and propose possible interventions. It analyzes the educational framework of various spiritual organizations, especially in the context of studying sacred texts, guru-shishya relations, and a broader process of spiritual education. Insights were gained through a series of methodologies including user interviews, participatory observation, and thematic analysis. The key challenges identified are access to spiritual teachings, lack of engagement in educational sessions, and gaps in interactivity experiences in learning.

Practical Implications: The study proposes an immersive solution integrating live holographic projections including immersive media. It addresses the challenges by creating interactive and visually engaging learning environments while maintaining the core values of spirituality. The practical implications consist of the use of immersive technologies for the enhancement of learning experiences that relate not only to religious instruction to heighten the engagement and interactivity of learners. Combining ‘old school’ and ‘cutting-edge’ approaches, this study develops interventions to advance spiritual education.
